Eugenia Allier y Katherine Hite

Como tod@s sabemos, el Congreso de LASA Guadalajara 2020 se vio fuertemente afectado por la pandemia mundial del Covid 19. La Sección de Historia Reciente y Memoria decidió mantener su participación en el Congreso, pero por motivos por tod@s conocidos, muchas de las personas que asistirían al Congreso no pudieron hacerlo.

Por estos motivos, los dos paneles originales propuestas y la mesa extra no se llevaron a cabo de la manera deseada. Los paneles originales eran:

Esa misma semana pudimos tener la reunión de la sección, en donde se dio un informe general sobre la sección y se acordó que Katherine Hite y Eugenia Allier Montaño seguirían conservando el rol de Co-chairs de la sección para poder dar un impulso a la misma en medio de la situación de la pandemia.

También se informó que desde este año, la página de Facebook de la sección está siendo alimentada con información de miembros de la sección. Aún queda por hacer trabajo para dar a conocer más a la sección y para generar labores de red entre los distintos miembros de la misma a lo largo del año.

Los asistentes a la reunión también plantearon las incertidumbres sobre lo que ocurrirá el próximo año con el Congreso en Vancouver.

Nuestra Sección también otorgó un premio al mejor libro de Historia Reciente y Memoria. El jurado estuvo compuesto por Graciela de Garay (México), Emilio Crenzel (Argentina) y Kirsten Weld (Estados Unidos). Les agradecemos mucho a los tres por su trabajo:

"Latin America's Radical Left. Rebellion and Cold War in the Global 1960s" de Aldo Marchesi.

Y menciones especiales a los libros "Bread, Justice, and Liberty: Grassroots Activism and Human Rights in Pinochet's Chile" de Alison Bruey y "Conflicted Memory Military Cultural Interventions and the Human Rights Era in Peru" de Cynthia Milton.

As we all know, the LASA Guadalajara 2020 Congress was strongly affected by the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic. The Recent History and Memory Section decided to maintain its participation in the Congress, but for reasons known to all, many of the people who would attend the Congress were unable to do so.

For those reasons, the two original proposed panels and the extra table were not carried out in the desired way. The original panels were:

That same week we were able to have the section meeting, where we gave a general report on the Section. Meeting attendees also agreed that Katherine Hite and Eugenia Allier Montaño would continue to retain the role of Co-chairs of the section in order to try to re-invigorate it in the midst of the pandemic situation.

It was also reported that over the past year, Section members have been supplying information to the Section's Facebook page. There is still work to be done to raise awareness of the section and to generate networking among the different members of the section throughout the year. Attendees of the meeting also raised uncertainties about what will happen next year with the Congress in Vancouver.

Our Section also awarded the best book in Recent History and Memory. The jury was made up of Graciela de Garay (Mexico), Emilio Crenzel (Argentina) and Kirsten Weld (United States). We thank all three of them for their work:
