Southern Cone Studies

Entre 2023 y 2025, continuaremos las actividades que lleva realizando con éxito la sección de CONO SUR LASA, añadiendo nuevos ejes y acciones con especial foco en: 

• Comunidad. Creemos que crear conexiones entre lxs miembros es fundamental para la vida académica. Pretendemos contribuir a ello mediante el fomento de la comunicación, sobre todo en redes sociales y YouTube (abriendo un canal propio), y la organización simposios regionales, como el de 2019 en Buenos Aires y de mesas redondas y paneles específicos dentro de las conferencias anuales de LASA. 
• Descentralización. Consideramos fundamental la pluralidad de voces y la diversificación en propuestas. Para ello, queremos reforzar la presencia y participación de lenguas indígenas del Cono Sur, fomentar el diálogo entre académicos, activistas y creadorxs de la región y auspiciar la colaboración con otras redes de académicos a través de institutos y centros periféricos en Cono Sur y otros Sures (Europa, España, Mediterráneo, África, etc.).

Por otra parte, proponemos una serie de iniciativas orientadas a poner en valor el conocimiento humanista, potenciando su divulgación y transferencia a la sociedad: 

• LASA-SURES WORKSHOP: se trata de la celebración de un workshop anual online y/o presencial para dar a conocer problemáticas políticas, proyectos de investigación –nacionales y/o regionales– y el trabajo de lxs profesionales de la cultura que tengan como objeto el estudio de las letras, las disidencias políticas y las sociedades del Sur de América. 
• MAESTRXS DEL CONO SUR: esta actividad consiste en la grabación de entrevistas de miembros de la sección a grandes maestrxs del Cono Sur, de la región y/o especialistas en ella, que cuentan su historia intelectual.

Between 2023 and 2025, we will continue with the activities that the Southern Cone Section of LASA has been successfully carrying out, adding new ideas and action with special focus on:

• Community. We believe that creating connections between members is fundamental for academic life. We intend to contribute to this through the development of our communications, especially our social media and YouTube (starting our own channel), and in organizing regional symposiums (like the one from 2019 in Buenos Aires), as well as specific round tables and panels within the annual LASA conferences.

• Decentralization. We consider plurality of voices and diversity of proposals fundamental. To this end, we want to reinforce the presence and participation of indigenous languages from the Southern Cone, encourage dialogue between academics, activists, and creators within the region, and support collaboration with other academic networks through institutions and peripheral centers within the Southern Cone and other Global Souths (Europe, Spain, the Mediterranean, Africa, etc.)

Moreover, we propose a series of initiatives geared toward placing value on the Humanist tradition, strengthening its outreach and transfer within society:

• LASA-SOUTH WORKSHOP: this entails the celebration of an annual online and/or in-person workshop that will give exposure to political polemics, research projects (both national and/or regional), and the work professionals within the cultures that are considering as objects of study the arts, dissident politics, and societies of the Southern Cone.

• SOUTHERN CONE EDUCATORS: this activity consists of recording interviews with members of the section and well-known educators within the Southern Cone (the region and specialists that focus on it) that recount their intellectual history.
