CFP LASA 2026 | REVISITAR EL SIGLO XIX EN AMÉRICA LATINA: NUEVOS HILOS

La sección LASA Siglo XIX abre su convocatoria para dos paneles patrocinados que ofrecerán una imagen del estado actual de los estudios del siglo XIX latinoamericano en LASA 2026, París. En la introducción al volumen The Routledge Hispanic Studies Companion to Nineteenth-Century Latin America (2025), Agnes Lugo-Ortiz y Graciela Montaldo nos invitan a ir más allá de las narrativas dominantes de fundación nacional, modernización y liberalismo. A partir de esta invitación, le damos la bienvenida a ponencias que incorporen perspectivas, conexiones y marcos interpretativos novedosos a los estudios del siglo XIX latinoamericano. 

Estamos particularmente interesades en ponencias que propongan nuevas aproximaciones a materiales conocidos, exploren espacios geográficos poco atendidos o conexiones transregionales novedosas, y/o trabajen con archivos, sujetos, modos de leer, ver y escuchar tradicionalmente soslayados. El marco de esta convocatoria es amplio: buscamos delinear las temáticas que guían hoy la escritura, el pensamiento y la imaginación sobre el siglo XIX lationamericano. Aceptamos propuestas de presentaciones individuales o de paneles de hasta cuatro ponencias. De las propuestas enviadas, el comité escogerá dos paneles que serán patrocinados por la sección.

Por favor envíen sus propuestas (en español, portugués o inglés) al correo lasasigloxix@gmail.com hasta el viernes 22 de agosto. Las propuestas deben incluir nombre completo, afiliación institucional, un título, un abstract (100-200 palabras) y dos palabras clave. 

LASA 2026 se llevará a cabo en persona en París entre el 26 y el 30 de Mayo. Por favor, envíe su propuesta si planea asistir en persona a la conferencia. No necesita ser miembro de LASA ni de la Sección Siglo XIX para enviar su propuesta, necesitará una membresía activa si su ponencia es aceptada. La Sección Siglo XIX estará otorgando dos becas de viaje para miembros de la sección al principio de 2026.

CFP LASA 2026 | REVISITING THE LATIN AMERICAN NINETEENTH CENTURY: NEW THREADS

The Nineteenth Century Section invites proposals for two sponsored panels that will offer a snapshot of the current state of Latin American nineteenth-century studies at LASA 2026 in Paris. Taking up the invitation posed by Agnes Lugo-Ortiz and Graciela Montaldo in their introduction to The Routledge Hispanic Studies Companion to Nineteenth-Century Latin America (2025) to move beyond dominant narratives of nation-building, modernization, and liberalism, we welcome presentations that bring fresh perspectives, connections, and frameworks to our study of this period. 

We are particularly interested in work that proposes new approaches to well-known materials, explores overlooked geographies or transregional connections, or draws on underutilized archives, subjects, and modes of reading, seeing, and hearing. The scope is intentionally broad: our aim is to gauge what is being thought, written, and imagined about the Latin American nineteenth century today. We invite you to participate either by sending an individual presentation proposal or by submitting a panel with four presentations. From the submitted proposals, we will select two sponsored panels. 

Please submit your proposal (in Spanish, Portuguese, or English) to lasasigloxix@gmail.com by August 22. Each submission must include: name and affiliation, a title, an abstract (100-200 words), and two keywords. 

LASA 2026 will be held fully in person in Paris from May 26-30. Please only submit an abstract if you are seriously considering or planning to attend the conference in person. You do not need to be a member of LASA or the Nineteenth Century Section to apply, but you will need an active membership if your proposal is accepted. The Section will open a competition for two travel grants for section members in early 2026.
