Defense, Public Security and Democracy

A Section of the Latin American Studies Association

This Section was created in the year 2000 at the LASA conference in Miami. Its goals are to coordinate and facilitate contact among members of LASA who are interested in all aspects of defense policy,  public security, civil-military relations, and other security issues in Latin America.  We also focus on the relationship between security and democracy, rule of law, judicial systems, and law enforcement.  Our section has started to organize a pre-conference since LASA in Barcelona 2018, and is currently organizing a pre-conference for Guadalajara 2020.
