Film Studies

La Sección de Estudios de Cine de LASA se complace en anunciar que este año se otorgarán tres becas de viaje para lxs miembrxs de la sección que asistan en forma presencial al congreso.

Las tres becas de viaje otorgadas serán repartidas de la siguiente manera:

• Estudiante de pregrado o posgrado.  
• Miembrx (estudiante o profesor/x) que trabaje o estudie desde Latinoamérica.
• Miembro general que incluye: profesorado, personal académico, investigador/x (con o sin afiliación académica), cineasta, productor/x, o guionista.

1. Se concederán las becas según los siguientes criterios:

• Ser miembrx de LASA y de la sección “Film Studies” de LASA y tener las membresías válidas hasta junio 16, 2024.
• Participación en el congreso 2024. Ser participante en algún panel relacionado con la sección de “Film Studies” como ponente, organizador/x o comentador/x ; o ser participante como ponente o invitad/x en alguna actividad relacionada con el Festival de Cine. En ambos casos lxs participantes deben aparecer acreditadxs en el programa oficial del congreso o del Festival de Cine.

2. Se concederá $400 por cada beca/ayuda.

3. La solicitud de beca debe incluir:

• Título y abstract de la ponencia o descripción de la actividad a realizar durante el congreso.
• Motivo de la petición de fondos (máximo 100 palabras). El motivo de la petición de fondos debe especificar: institución asociada; ayuda(s) complementaria(s) (si la[s] hay); experiencia previa en LASA; publicaciones (pasadas o en curso) relevantes para el área de cine.
• Curriculum Vitae.

4. Esta solicitud debe ser enviada antes de las 11.30 PM (EST) del 5 de febrero de 2024 a la dirección lasafilmsection@gmail.com

5. Las solicitudes serán evaluadas de acuerdo al mérito/calidad del abstract y los criterios económicos. Los abstracts serán evaluados en función de los siguientes criterios:

• Importancia e interés para el campo de estudio y para el cuerpo académico en áreas relacionadas.
• Claridad y coherencia en la presentación del abstract.

6. Los miembros del comité de la sección de LASA 2023-2024 conformarán un subcomité que decidirá las becas. Los resultados del subcomité se comunicarán antes de las 11.30 PM (EST) del 12 de febrero de 2024.

7. Las personas que reciban las becas o ayudas deben confirmar al subcomité la aceptación o no de la ayuda antes de las 11.30 PM (EST) del 26 de febrero de 2024.

8. Estas ayudas no son incompatibles con otras ayudas otorgadas por LASA o por otras instituciones. No obstante, con el fin de dar oportunidad de solicitar ayudas al mayor número posible de integrantes de la sección, las personas que reciban estas becas no podrán solicitar ayudas a la sección “Film Studies” de LASA para asistir a los Congresos LASA 2025 y 2026. De la misma manera, no pueden participar en la convocatoria aquellas personas favorecidas con las becas de LASA 2022 o 2023. Lxs miembrxs del comité de la sección de “Film Studies” de LASA no pueden presentarse a la convocatoria de ayudas.

The LASA Film Studies Section is pleased to announce that this year, we will award travel grants to three section members who attend the congress in person.

The three grant categories are as follows:

• Undergraduate or graduate student.
• Members (student or teacher) who work or study in Latin America.
• General members include faculty, academic staff, researchers (with or without academic affiliation), filmmakers, producers, or screenwriters.

1. The grants will be awarded according to the following criteria:

• Applicants must be members of LASA and the LASA and "Film Studies" with valid memberships until June 16, 2024.
• Participation in the 2024 congress. Must participate in a panel related to the “Film Studies” section as a presenter, organizer, or discussant or as a presenter or guest for an activity related to the Film Festival. In either case, the participant’s name should appear in the official program of the congress or Film Festival.

2. The quantity of $400 will be awarded for each grant.

3. The application must include:

• Title and Abstract of the presentation or description of the activity to be carried out during the congress.
• Reason for the request for funds (maximum 100 words) that specifies: associated institution; supplemental aid (if any); previous experience with LASA; publications (past or in progress) relevant to cinema.
• Curriculum vitae.

4. Applications will be evaluated on economic need and the merit and quality of the abstract based on the following:

• Importance and interest for the field of study and the profession in related fields.
• Clarity and coherence of the abstract’s presentation.

5. Applications should be sent before 11:30 PM (EST) on February 5, 2024 to lasafilmsection@gmail.com

6. The Section's Executive Committee will decide on the grant candidates. The Committee’s decision will be announced before 11:30 PM (EST) on February 12, 2024.

7. Applicants awarded travel grants should confirm their acceptance or rejection to the Committee before 11:30 PM (EST) on February 26, 2024.

8. These travel grants are compatible with other grants authorized by LASA or other institutions. However, to allow the most significant number of section members to request funds, people who receive these travel grants will not be able to request the grant from the LASA “Film Studies” section to attend the LASA 2025 and 2026 Congresses. In the same way, those who have received the LASA 2022 or 2023 scholarships cannot participate in the call. The members of the committee of the LASA “Film Studies” section cannot participate in the call for aid.
